Cobb County School District FERPA guidelines for parent volunteers require that ALL parent volunteers must watch a very brief (about 3 minute) video that outlines the FERPA guidelines that must be followed and how they relate to volunteers working in schools.
Anyone volunteering must watch the video and sign the agreement. Anyone coming in to volunteer can take few minutes to view the video and sign the form. The form only has to be completed once and Davis Elementary will keep the form on file. Prior to your first volunteer shift, we need you to:

Reading: We will be focusing on Wordly Wise Lesson 1 this week. Test will be on Friday. Students do not need to know how to spell the words, but they do need to know the meaning. The test will be multiple choice. Math: We will be working on subtraction using regrouping. We will also work on 2 step word problems using addition and subtraction. Science: We will be finishing up soil this week. We are excited to have our first in house filed trip from the Wright Environmental Center on Tuesday! This week we have a lot going on!
Science: We will be looking at some different types of soil. We will also look at the different layers of soil. Math: We will be working on different strategies to add using regrouping through 1,000. We also started our differentiated math groups on Tuesday. Reading: We will be working with the book Rain School. We will talk about the power of reading. We will also be working on using the RAP strategy to answer questions. Spelling test will be on Friday. Thanks to everyone who came to the Open House last week. We also really appreciate all the donations that have been sent in.
Reading: We have been working on rules and routines to begin our reading workshop. We have been building our reading stamina and learning how to work in partnerships/groups. We will be learning the RAP and RACE strategy and instigating quotes from different books. Writing: We will begin personal narrative writing using the Units of Study program. Math: We have been working on rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. We will move into addition with regrouping up to 1,000. Science: We have been learning about rocks and minerals. All classes will be taking a science test on rocks this week. We are so excited to have each of you in 3rd grade this year! We will be hosting parent orientation next week. Please join us Thursday, August 9th at 6:00 pm to learn all about third grade. We will host 2 thirty minute sessions. The first session will start promptly after the PTA meeting.
If your child has not purchased an agenda or Wordly Wise, please get one from the school store. You can purchase both books for $20. If you are unable to afford these materials at this time please contact your child's teacher. Parents are asked to initial the agenda nightly and sign their child's gold sheet every Thursday night. More information about the agenda and Wordly Wise will be given during parent orientation. |
